Chris Chantland – Dog Portraits and Landscapes

Chris Chantland has been painting since Batman and Robin debuted on TV in 1966. He developed a talent for capturing the likeness and personality of people and animals by simply drawing people he admired – like Batman and Robin – not being satisfied unless the likeness was exact. Because of his employment with dog-related companies, he started painting the retrievers and bird dogs that competed in hunt tests and field trials. Many of those owners competing began to commission him to paint their dogs – and sometimes themselves with their dogs.

By 2003, many of his subjects came from around the area surrounding Thomasville, GA and Tallahassee, FL. Today, he is gravitating towards more landscapes – particularly the landscapes of the Sonoran Desert.

Chris is a member of the Society of Animal Artists. His only award is winning first place in watercolor art the Iowa State Fair back in the 70’s, but someday he thinks he may make it big time.
