“In a portrait, I work to capture the heart, soul and personality of the subject – be it dog, horse or person. I work in several mediums: acrylic, graphite, watercolor and oil. Each has its own characteristic and people tend to have a favorite medium, or the work might lend itself best to one or the other.
Every animal has a personality and that is what is essential to capture. I learned to draw faces of famous people I looked up to as a kid, and I was determined to get the technical aspect just right. But in the end, “exact”, is always second fiddle to “perfect.” A fellow artist once told me, “Careful is my enemy.”
