About The Artist - Chris Chantland - Commissioned Portraits, Original Paintings, Prints

CCC"In a portrait, I work to capture the heart, soul and personality of any type of subject - dogs, horses, people - in acylic, graphite, oil or watercolor. I like to work in several mediums. All have their own charcteristics and people tend to have a favorite medium. A lot of my subjects come from the plantation life of South Georgia, so many of the dogs I paint are labs and pointers. But there is no limit - every animal has a personality and that is what is essential to capture. I learned to draw by drawing faces of famous people I looked up to as a kid - and I was determined to get the techinal aspect right, but I learned that "exact" is always second fiddle to "essence."

Chris Chantland has been painting for over 30 years and captures the personalities of sporting dogs, horses  - and their owners - in special commissions as well as originals works. Chris is a Signature Member of the Society of Animal Artists. His paintings are part of the permanent collection of the National Bird Dog Museum in Grand Junction, Tennessee, and in private collections.
